Today Principal Law departs from the usual custom of writing about the latest legal news to bring you information about the upcoming Memorial Day holiday in the U.SA.  The three day Memorial Day Holiday is a time when we will see happy crowds of family and friends celebrating the arrival of the first official weekend of the season of summer.

Memorial Day Means more than fun.

Celebrating the Beginning of Summer

This is a wonderful time for families in our beloved state of Florida, where there is a bounty of scenic nature, fun theme parks and fine weather for us to enjoy.

Everywhere in the United States, the Memorial Day week-end holiday instigates backyard parties, picnics and gatherings of friends and families.  We at Principal Law see recreational plans stretch from coast to coast as people dust off their boats and clean up their barbecue grills.
In spite of the fact that we believe these are wonderful activities as we initiate the summer spirit of 2018, we also believe that we must never lose the true meaning of the holiday.  Many people do not realize the true meaning of Memorial Day.

What Do You Know about Memorial Day?

The custom of setting aside Memorial Day as a holiday actually originated so that citizens would have the time to honor our nation’s military dead.  There are ceremonies, festivals and parades in many U.S.A. communities.  This year, Principal Law hopes you will remember the festivities are designed to honor the members of the Americans Armed Forces who died in the service of their country.  This was meant to be a time off from work, set aside for decorating graves of loved ones who fell in battle.

  • In fact, in our own town of Sanford, there will be a Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on 1st Street and Veterans Memorial Park Sanford on the 28th. It’s all about remembering and honoring those service men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country.
  • Memorial Day Means More than Summer Fun.

    Memorial Day: Remember and Honor

  • So for Memorial Day, 2019, Let us vow to pause in the three-day celebration of our lives, to recognize their deaths.
  • Let us steal a moment from the first fun of the summer, and put a flower on a hero’s grave.

At Principal Law, the attorneys and staff bow our heads. We take a moment to remember there were soldiers who gave up their lives to keep us free and safe in our American homes.

For some really new insight into the story of this holiday and its significance, we invite you to read some forgotten details, the historical truth behind Memorial Day at this informative source!

At Principal Law We Declare Memorial Day to be Memorial Week

We have decided that a one-day memorial is not enough!  We vow to stay mindful of the spirit of Memorial Day for the entire week, as we drive through the busy Holiday traffic in Orlando.

Our research shows that “Central Florida hotels and theme parks are bracing for big crowds this weekend when travel is expected to hit its highest Memorial Day level since 2005.”

  • The nation expects 36.1 million people will travel during the long weekend, according to the AAA auto club.  That is a lot of cars and potential danger.
  • Signaling a recovering economy, this recreational travel surge shows a 1.5 percent increase over the travelers of 2013.  In our state of Florida, we expect almost 1.9 million people to be on the roads.
  • So, please, readers, friends and clients, take care, and drive with caution. It is not a good idea to spend any part of Memorial Day Weekend in the emergency room or in jail.1.  Did you know that over the long week-end Memorial Day holiday in 2010, 397 people died in crashes?
    2.  Did you know that over 40 percent of the crashes on American roads were related to unwise alcohol consumption?  These two reasons justify adding our voice to the many who urge you to drink responsibly.
  • At Principal Law we know some of you might think there’s nothing like a good brew with a burger or a sparkling cocktail before dinner. However, neither of these mix with driving.  Friends, please remember, if your party permits alcohol, car keys do not mix well with it.  And “buzzed driving is drunk driving.”

A Big Principal Law Plea for the Holiday and Beyond

Use your seatbelt!  The Orlando Sentinel reported yesterday, “Buckle up, deputies are on the lookout.  Orange County sheriff deputies will be
part of a two-week, seat-belt enforcement campaign that begins tonight.

Memorial Day means heart felt memories as well as celebration.

Celebrate. Remember. Honor.

The “Click It or Ticket” effort comes as summer is on the horizon and the travel-heavy Memorial Day weekend begins Friday, said Jane Watrel, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, which is assigning its traffic unit to the detail.

1. Not wearing a seat belt in Orange County can cost you a $114 fine.”
2. Make sure your friends and families (passengers) are buckled into their seatbelts also.
3. Obey all speed limits, and keep in mind that traffic congestion may require driving more slowly.
4.  Don’t drive distracted:  Anything that takes your full attention off of the road, even for a second, could because a serious or fatal accident. “This includes texting, changing the radio station, talking to passengers, etc.”

We quote for your enjoyment, the lyrics from a special song.  We hope it will put you in the spirit of the Memorial Day Holiday.

“Proud To Be An American” By Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there’s pride in every American heart,
And it’s time we stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land! God bless the U.S.A.
